Hong Kong (Part 1)
I'm back!!! Back to the reality!!!
Give me one more month in Hong Kong, I"ll tell you it's never gonna be enough!!! A country with the best shopping spot and truly a busy place. The city of lights, life, and food!!!Yes, I'm currently suffering from serious holiday blues and damn it, I miss Hong Kong very much!!! Miss the people, the culture, the food, and simply Hong Kong itself...I have adjust and adapted myself to the lifestyle there. So you can imagine how much I'm missing the place and how fast one can fall in love with the place!!!
Been away for two weeks. Not too long but it's more than enough to reveal many things. One of it is my inner shopping devil. Believe me, I just recently discovered tht I'm just another typical woman with huge interest whn it comes to shopping. I 'thought' I was not one of them. ^^ The feeling was different when I came 12 years ago. So much difference!!! Also, sometimes it's the people you are going with. It does matter a lot. Thanks ya!!! *wink*
Anyway, whether you'll read it or not, I'm gonna spell out each and every detail thing I came across in Hong Kong through this entry. So beware!!! This is a long entry!!! Stretch your body and prepare to strain your eyes...Here goes:
Duration: 05/01/06 - 19/01/06
My Hong Kong fever with the gang namely: Richie, Irene, Valene.
Welcoming us from Hong Kong were: Franco & his family members, Cookie and the rest of the gang in HK.
Day 1 - The arrival
Arrived in Hong Kong International Airport @ 6pm sharp. Took us only around 15 minutes to come out. I was wondering whether there will be any stars around. The feeling was rather funny and new when I arrived. Instantly love it when I stepped out of the plane coz this is the trip we have been planning for almost a year, and now, we are here!!! Waited for Franco's mum to pick us up. She looks exactly like Franco, just shorter. Brought our luggage along and proceeded to Franco's house @ Shatin. We took the double decker bus to his house. Believe me, the night view in Hong Kong is superb! The houses, or should I call them condos just appear roll after roll. Non-stop! Aunty was quite comfortable with seeing us for the first time, well at least we did not leave any bad impression upon first meeting. Another feeling struck me when I arrived @ Shatin. Though the houses in HK are small but I love the environment and the concept of living in a small community within an area.
WoohOO! Checked our luggage in and excitedly tried our rooms. Also, patiently anticipate Franco home. Was so happy to see him after two long months. He was still the same except tht I think he's getting more handsome with his own charisma. Hahahahahha...Headed straight for dinner @ First City Complex just round the corner. Oh ya, one thing I love about Hk are the street names. All in chinese and sounds very nice. After dinner, we headed to a supermarket nearby to buy some snacks and then proceeded to 7-Eleven for Vita Soy. Franco told us it's a must for every schooling people to drink it. 7-Eleven in HK is so different from the ones in Malaysia and Australia. It's like a mini supermarket itself with lots of things to see and eat. Love it! Then, we further proceed to the curry fishball, just next door. This was one of our must do list. To eat curry fishball at a roadside stall...^^
Day 2- Twins Concert
Woke up nice and shine in e morn, kickstarted the day to New City Plaza @ Shatin. Before tht, we all bought the Octopus transport card so tht we can take the MTR/KCR conveniently. Walk around the complex and came back to Franco's house to put down some stuff before we head to Hung Hom Collisuem for Twins Concert!!! Had dinner at The King of Steak House but the food was below average. AHAHHAHAHAHA...
The concert venue was so so so big and impressing. It was the crowd and amount of people tht makes the effect. So different from watching a concert back home and of coz through vcd. The atmosphere and the people. The crowd and the settings. Well of coz Twins Concert was one of events which I look forward the most to. Was my second time seeing them and this time, in their home country iteslf. They rox!!! After the concert, we headed to Tsim Tsa Tsui a.k.a TST for dessert. Quite a tired day though. One thing I like abt HK was the amount of people you can see at late nights. It's almost similar to day time. You can walk on the street during late nights and to me I think it's pretty safe. Taxis everywhere and people walking on and off the street.
Twins concert was one of the highlights for the night. Another highlight was meeting our new friend- Herman. ^^ He is Franco's friend and I think he's funny. Looking at the way he talks and treat people. Funny in his own way with his own charm.
Day 3- The Peak
Before we head to The Peak to catch a good view of Hong Kong city, Franco brought us to Causeway Bay (Tung Loh Wan) to walk around. Franco's house belongs to the New Territory area, block by a mountain. By crossing two tunnels, it will lead us to the other side of Hong Kong. Which is the Hong Kong area. Comprises of Central, Causeway Bay, Amiralty and more. Had our lunch along a small alleyway. Filled with its own taste and culture. Took the smaller kind of bus we used to see in all the hk series, 'Siu Ba' to The Peak. Reached there around 3 in the afternoon.
Took a ride on the cable car right up to the peak and thanks to our very handsome guide, Herman, he lead us to walked an one hour trail to admire the city of pearl from a breathtaking spot. It was nice and by the time we finished the walk, it was night time. The lights, the buildings, and the people makes Hong Kong a truly beautiful Asia country. Just right before that, we insisted on trying the Ice Cream Fondue in Haagen Daz under the less than 10 degree weather. WoooooWW!!! Syok!!! Today, we had four people sleeping on two bunk beds. That is what I call slumber parties!!! Having the most favorite person sleeping right beside you, it's just hard to describe the feeling. *wink* You know who you are...!!! Bu Ke Yi !!!
Day 4- Causeway Bay
Sunday!!! A day out with Franco's mum, Franco, and Herman to Causeway Bay. Full packed with people and crowd. Aunty took us to this something like food exhibition where you can get the cheapest price for different goods. More towards new year stuff. Again, I experienced the crowd, lucky to have a cooling weather, orelse I'll be going crazy!!! By the fourth day, I have alraedy spent almost 2500 HKD on food and shopping. My every night must do task was to calculate my expenses for the day and admire my goods.
Day 5- Hong Kong Disneyland
Woke up early in the morning to start our journey to Disneyland. Met up with the rest in MTR station and headed straight there. Arrivedat around 10am in the morning and our very lovely Katie was already standing there waiting for us. Katie is one of our classmates from RMIT. Sweet and pretty as usual. She is currently working for Disneyland Hong Kong for a year, will be going back in Feb. Guess what?!!She's one of the princesses of Disney. Therefore we had the privilege to take photo with her as long as we want and the privilege to know where the other princesses were located in order to avoid the crowd. The best thing was we don't have to pay a single cent to enter Disneyland!!!
Disneyland itself was not very big, but we were able to spend almost 12 hours there. WAtched all the performance and almost all the rides. The best part was the fireworks outside the castle at night. Superbly nice and romantic. Very different from the fireworks I normally see. Another highlight of the day was our dinner @ Lin Heong Lau in Central. It was one of the oldest restaurants in Hong Kong with its own heritage. Some of the gangster scenes where all the tai lo fight was shoot here. The dishes were darn nice and new. Love the bacon with pork and duck liver. Yes!A very fattening dish. But, I'm lovin' it!!!
Day 6- Shopping @ TST
The real shopping spree begins today. Finally, we came to TST for some real shopping where you can see all the darn cool and pretty salesgirl around the shop in their coolest outfit. Also, one of our must go place for today is Low B Club @ Lei Si. Which is Ar Sa's boutique. In comparison with the other shops in Lei Si, her shop was really the least trendy and nice, which of coz was a dissapointment. Managed to find something I like there but was too expensive. The sales people in Hong Kong has a few characteristics. One, they are very friendly. Two, very trendy. Three, most are quite pretty. I was intimidated whenever I enter a shop, fearing tht I might look too outdate and kampung. ahahahahahahahaha...but I got used to it after a while.
Lei Si is not a big shopping complex like KLCC or Mid Valley, it looks older than the Low Yat building. But the fashion and things selling inside are unique and darn in. Poor Richie have to walk with us for hours and helped us to carry our stuff. Imagine there are six floors in Lei Si, and it took us two hours just to finish the first floor!! Reduction is the magic word which pushed us to buy so much.
After almost a day @ TST, it was time to head back to Franco's house for dinner. Todays dinner was prepared by Franco's Mum a.k.a Aunty Susan...^^ There were all together eight dishes I think, all was more than enough to pamper my taste bud. Poor aunty started cooking from 12 noon till eight at night. But her hard work was repaid by our big appetite. We finished almost everything, putting two thumbs up!!!
Day 7- APM
We went to the Hong Kong Musuem of History to know more abt the transformation of Hong Kong from a small fishing village to one of the most important cities in the world now. Was good to backdate ourself to the past, understanding the different stages and cultures of Hong Kong. Then, we proceeded to TST for Wanton noodle. The prawn wanton is bigger than a ping pong ball. Yum!!! Then, Franco brought us to The Avenue of Stars. It does felt like a star when we were walking on every hand prints of the stars. Managed to catch an overview of the Hong Kong buildings from one side of the sea. My favorite structure is the exhibition centre of Hong Kong.
Franco left us for work and we headed to APM @ Kwun Tong. One of the most recent and coolest gathering spot and shopping complex in Hong Kong now. Most of the movie promotions were held there. After this trip, eating dessedt have become one of my favorite things to do. Their desserts are darn nice!!! For dinner, Cookie was the host tonight. We went to her house for Poon Choy. A traditional dish where you have many things in one pot. Namely scallops, chicken, prawns, duck, mushrooms, cuttlefish, lotus and more. Personally thinks it taste normal but was interesting to try it since I always sees it on tv.
I think this entry is long enough to keep your eyes tired. This is only the first week in Hong Kong. I'll put part two up soon...
